Best Dash Cam for Uber and Lyft Drivers in 2026: What to Look For

Rideshare drivers need three views: the road, the cabin and the rear. Here is what matters, how to register your camera in the Uber app, and the audio rules to know.

Short answer: pick a 3-channel dash cam that records the road ahead, the cabin and the rear at the same time, with infrared lights for the cabin at night. Register it in the Uber driver app, and post a notice or turn audio off in states that require every passenger to agree to audio recording. Why rideshare drivers need three cameras A front camera shows who ran the light. Only a cabin camera shows what happened between you and a passenger, and only a rear camera shows the car that hit you from behind and drove off. In a June 2025 survey of 989 US drivers, 53% of gig workers said they already use a dash cam. What to look for • Three channels recording at once: front, cabin and rear on one recording. • Infrared cabin camera: passengers ride at night, and a normal lens sees almost nothing in a dark cabin. • Impact sensor (G-sensor): it locks the clip so loop recording does not erase it. • WiFi app: you save a clip on your phone at the curb, without removing the card. • GPS: speed and position stamped on the clip help when your word is against a passenger's. Register your dash cam with Uber Uber allows dash cams. In the driver app, go to Menu, Account, App Settings, Record My Ride, then Register under Record with your dashcam. Riders get a notice in the app that the car has a camera, and they can cancel. Lyft also allows dash cams and lets you register one in the driver app; registration is optional. Neither app replaces the consent your state or province requires. The audio rule Video of the road is rarely an issue. Recording what passengers say is different. California, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Washington generally require all parties to consent to recording a private conversation, and Oregon and Missouri do for in-person conversations. Post a visible notice such as "This vehicle records audio and video", or turn the microphone off. In Canada, the Criminal Code allows recording a conversation you take part in, but privacy rules still apply to what you do with it. Our options The 3-Channel Dash Cam records front, cabin and rear in 1080p and takes a microSD card of up to 32 GB (not included). The 2K 3-Channel Dash Cam with GPS and WiFi adds a 2K front camera, an infrared cabin camera, GPS and phone playback. In Canada, the 4-Channel Dash Cam records the front in 1080p and has two side cameras in 480p that you can turn toward the cabin. For US drivers, the driver kit adds a wireless charging mount at the add-on price and a 4-port charger in one click.
